One Year Later
By Jasmeen Kaur, international student from India studying at Kwantlen Polytechnic University
Today it has been exactly one year since I came to Canada as an international student. In this one year I have had many experiences which has helped me to become independent and grow as a person. I believe that studying in B.C. was one of the best decisions I made in my life.
The Canadian society is so welcoming that I never felt out of place. The list of things I love about B.C. is endless. To begin with, I love the natural beauty of B.C. British Columbia is one of the naturally abundant places in the world. For people like me with love for travelling and experiencing new places it is a great place. Further, it is a hub of many cultures and traditions from across the globe which further adds to its beauty. One can witness events from different cultures going on throughout the year.
Moreover, now is the Christmas time of the year so I have started to feel the Christmas vibes. Streets and houses are beautifully decorated. The best part is the unity in diversity. Even the non-Christian families celebrate it with same enthusiasm. I feel that Christmas is incomplete without snow. The weather has started to turn colder and to make things perfect it will be snowing soon. Children are waiting anxiously for Santa. The shops and malls are full of people shopping for Christmas gifts which is the best part of this festival. I love this time of the year and more excited for my second Christmas in B.C. Last year, I was quite new here in B.C. so could not enjoy much but this time I am looking for lot of fun especially after having a successful semester.
