Study in BC Writer’s Award is given annually by the BC Council for International Education (BCCIE) to post-secondary international students in British Columbia. The Award’s goal is to encourage students to share real stories, experiences, and advice and to provide readers with unfiltered voices and honest opinions about living as an international student in BC.

Eligibility
You must be a full or a part-time international student currently enrolled at a BC post-secondary institution.
Requirements
Once the winners are selected, they will work closely with the BCCIE communications team to develop blog topics and content over several months. To receive funding, you will be required to submit the following:
- Three (3) original, unpublished blog posts. Each post must be between 300-400 words and include at least one (1) photo.
- One (1) photo album with at least ten (10) high-resolution photos (in JPEG or PNG format).
Award Funding Distribution Upon completion of the requirements in March 2025, a cheque for the full award value ($1,000) will be sent directly to the BC post-secondary institution you are attending to be applied to your tuition fees. If Spring 2025 is your last semester, you may be able to receive the funds directly through your institution’s financial aid office.
How to Apply
Prepare the following documents:
- Verification of Enrolment Letter. This is an official document prepared by the university/college/institution that provides a snapshot of your academic status and generally confirms the following information:
- Name
- Student Identification Number
- Program of study
- The number of credit units you are enrolled in for the academic period
- The number of credit units you are enrolled in and/or have successfully completed
- The start and end dates of your academic period
- One (1) 1-3 page creative writing sample. Your writing sample could be a blog post, a press release, a web article, or any other creative writing piece. Or, you may provide a written statement of a minimum of 300 words addressing the following questions:
- Why did you choose BC as a study destination?
- How is studying in BC helping you grow personally and/or professionally?
- Have you learnt something new about yourself?
- How does studying in BC impact your future?
- One (1) 300-400 word letter addressing the following questions:
- Why are you applying for the Study in BC Writer’s Award?
- What are your plans and goals for your time in BC?
- If selected for the Study in BC Writer’s Award, how do you plan on sharing your experiences with other international students?
